How-to Receive Our Podcast

First of all, it's important to note that you do not need an iPod or any other portable media player to enjoy podcasts. The name podcasting can be confusing in that regard. The only requirement is a computer with an Internet connection and a set of speakers or headphones.

The majority of podcast subscribers use Apple iTunes to manage their podcast. iTunes is an excellent media player that works really well on the two most popular operating systems, Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. In fact, iTunes has a unique podcast directory built right in. If you use iTunes, just select your choice of the "1-click" links to access our subscription page. Select "Subscribe" and you are all set. iTunes will manage the podcast files for you. Of course, feel free to dig through the help files on iTunes for ways to enhance organization and enjoyment.

If you don't use iTunes, there are many options for retrieving and storing podcasts. You might start by taking a look at Juice, an open-source podcast receiver. It's been around for some time and it has a strong feature set. Also, you might enjoy the Wikipedia entry on podcasting.

In this edition we will teach you how in download iTunes, install iTunes, and get our audio and video podcast.

Step One: Download and install iTunes

The first step is easy, just type into your browser www.itunes.com or click on my link here. The windows that opens will look (something) like this:

Click on the "Download Now" seen in the yellow area of this picture. (In all pictures yellow is added by me to help you identify the area of interest.)

Then type in your email address (required) and click on "Download iTunes Free".

Internet Explorer will open a window like this one and simply select "Run".

After the download is complete Internet Explorer will open this window. Select "Run" and then follow the on screen instructions to install iTunes.

Step Two: Signing up for the LFC audio and video podcast.

First go to www.mylfc.com. Once the page opens click on "Online Teaching/LFC Podcast" under the "Quick Clicks" menu.

Once the page opens, then click on either the iTunes Audio Podcast or the iTunes Video Podcast. (or both!)

If you click on audio podcast the following window will come up:

Simply click on "Subscribe" and you will receive the audio podcast every time it updates!

If you click on "iTunes Video Podcast", iTunes will open and subscribe you automatically.

Click on "Podcasts" under your Library (Top Left) to see what you have downloaded.

Once downloaded, simply double click on an entry to play. Remember video podcasts are quite large and depending on the speed of your internet connection could take up to 45 minutes to download.
